The two of you, two therapists, one room, and two sessions running side by side. Each of you chooses independently, deep classical work for one, something slower for the other, and the pair time themselves against each other so both sessions stop within a minute or two of one another. A therapist each is charged as two sessions rather than one, so it comes to double the hour a couple pays for a single therapist between them, and neither half is reduced for sharing a room. Origin

The side-by-side room is a young idea. North American destination spas began building suites with two tables in them in the 1990s and selling the pair as a single booking, and the rest of the industry copied it within a decade. What to expect

The two working surfaces go side by side, far enough apart that neither therapist is moving around the other's elbows, close enough that the two of you can reach across. The pair agree their sequence before anything begins, who starts face down, when the turn comes, where the long strokes land, so the room keeps one rhythm rather than two competing ones. Most couples talk for the first ten minutes and then stop, which is usually when the booking starts doing what it was booked for. When the booked time is up, both therapists stop within the same minute, so neither of you waits on the other.

Can the two of us book different lengths?

You can, though it takes some of the point out of it. The pair travel together and it is one booking, so the shorter session simply ends first and one of you waits. Most couples who want unequal time take the same length for both and let the two therapists spend it differently, deeper on one side of the room, slower on the other.

Do both therapists arrive at the same time?

Together, at the same door, in uniform, one arrival rather than two. Forty to sixty minutes from confirmation in the centre. Everything the two sessions need travels with them, so nothing has to be asked of the hotel. Schiphol airport hotels are by arrangement, on enquiry.

Are we in the room while it is being set up?

Yes; there is no back room to disappear into. The pair lay the two surfaces out with the two of you there, which takes a few minutes and is the last of the practical part of the evening. After that nothing else is asked of either of you.

Can this be booked with two therapists?

Yes, in two shapes. Both therapists can work on one of you, or each of you can have your own; the second shape counts twice as many people receiving and costs twice the first, hour for hour and across the night alike.

How do I pay?

The balance, on arrival: card, crypto or euro cash, or another major currency at a figure written down beforehand. Half the fee confirms a pair, an overnight or a booking made ahead; the balance is paid on arrival, and there is no booking fee.
