The comparison of four hands vs couples massage is the question we answer most often in the first message from a couple, usually phrased as a simple either-or. Both formats send two therapists to your hotel or apartment in Amsterdam. Both cost the same per therapist. And yet they are almost opposite experiences. One puts all four hands on a single person. The other gives each of you your own therapist, side by side, at the same time. This guide sets the two next to each other so that the choice is made on purpose rather than by the wording of the first message.
Four hands vs couples massage in one sentence each
A four-hand session is two therapists working together on one guest, moving in step, so that attention arrives in several places at once. A couples massage is two therapists working in parallel on two guests, one each, so that both of you receive a full session in the same hour. In the first, the experience is intense and concentrated on one body. In the second, it is shared: you are in the same room, on the same schedule, and you can reach out a hand to each other if you like.
The four-hand service page explains where the mirrored style came from. The couples massage page covers the side-by-side format in detail. This guide is about deciding between them.
Who is on the bed
This is the whole difference, and every other point in this guide follows from it. With four hands, one person receives. If you are travelling as a couple, the other partner is not being massaged during that time. Some couples love this arrangement, because one of them wants to give the other a present, or because only one of them is interested in massage at all. Others find it awkward to have one partner waiting, and for them a session each is the natural answer.
With a couples booking, both of you receive from the first minute to the last. There is no audience and nobody waiting. The two sessions start together and end within a minute or two of each other, which means the evening afterwards also begins together.
How each one feels
Guests describe four hands as overwhelming in the first minutes and deeply quiet afterwards. With two therapists moving at the same moment, the mind cannot predict where the next touch will land, and after a while it gives up trying. Many people say they lost track of time in a way that one therapist alone never produced. It is a solo experience, even if a partner is in the room, and it suits someone who wants to switch off completely.
A couples session feels more social, even when neither of you says a word. You hear your partner breathing slowly, you are aware of the other bed or the other side of the mattress, and you come out of it at the same moment. Couples tell us that the conversation afterwards is part of what they paid for. Each of you can ask for a different style, one lighter and one firmer, because each therapist works only for her own guest.
What each format costs
The figures come from the rates table printed on every therapist profile, and they follow directly from how many people are receiving.
Four hands on one guest sits on the single-client, two-therapist row: EUR 360 for an hour, EUR 540 for ninety minutes, EUR 720 for two hours, EUR 1,080 for three hours, and EUR 2,880 for an overnight of eight hours.
A couple with a therapist each sits on the couple, two-therapist row: EUR 720 for an hour, EUR 1,080 for ninety minutes, EUR 1,440 for two hours, EUR 2,160 for three hours, and EUR 5,760 for an overnight of eight hours.
So an hour of couples massage is double an hour of four hands. That is not a premium; two people are receiving instead of one. If the budget is fixed, the practical question becomes whether you want one partner to have a longer four-hand session, or both of you to have a shorter one together.
Deposits for both formats
Here the two formats behave identically. Each of them brings two therapists, and every two-therapist booking is confirmed with half the fee, whether it is for tonight or for next month. An hour of four hands means EUR 180 settled when we accept and EUR 180 on arrival. An hour with a therapist each means EUR 360 ahead and EUR 360 on arrival. You settle that half inside the WhatsApp thread with card, Revolut, Wise or crypto; a cancellation does not bring it back. If your plans change more than 24 hours before the start, one move to a new date within 14 days keeps it attached to the booking. The full rule, with worked examples for couples, is on the cancellation policy page.
What the room needs
For four hands, both therapists work around one person, so the key is access to both long sides of one bed. A standard double is enough, provided the floor beside it is clear from the pillows to the foot.
For a couples session, two people lie down at once. A wide hotel bed can take both of you, with each therapist working from her own outer side. In a narrower room, one guest on the bed and one on a firm surface prepared by the therapists is common. If you are unsure, describe the room in one line when you write, and the pair will know before they arrive which arrangement to use.
When four hands is the better choice
Choose four hands when only one of you wants a massage, when the booking is a gift from one partner to the other, or when one of you has a specific need, such as a sore back after a long flight, that deserves both therapists' full attention. It also suits guests travelling alone who happened to find this site while looking for something special. And it suits couples who simply want to try the format and are happy for the partner not receiving to relax in another room, go out for a drink, or stay nearby with a book.
When a therapist each is the better choice
Choose a couples booking when the point of the evening is doing something together. Anniversaries, honeymoons and the last night of a city break usually fall here. It is also the fairer choice when both partners are equally tired, because neither has to wait. And it lets you each ask for something completely different without negotiation: one of you can have a slow, sensual session while the other has firm pressure through the shoulders.
Length, and how it changes the comparison
The two formats reward different lengths. An hour of four hands already feels full, because so much happens at once, and a first-time guest rarely wishes it had been longer. Ninety minutes gives the pair room to slow the second half right down, which is where regular guests say the format becomes its own thing. Beyond two hours, four hands is usually booked by someone who has had it before and knows how they respond to it.
Couples sessions stretch more easily. Because each of you has your own therapist, the pace is set person by person rather than by the coordination of a pair, and ninety minutes or two hours is the usual choice for an occasion. A three-hour couples booking often includes a pause in the middle for a drink or a shower, which suits an evening you want to take slowly. Whatever you choose, remember that three hours or more is confirmed with a deposit on its own terms, in addition to the two-therapist rule that already applies.
If one of you tires sooner than the other, say so when you write. Different lengths within a couples booking can be arranged, while four hands is always one continuous session for its single guest.
Can you mix the two?
Yes, across different evenings. A common pattern on a longer stay is a couples session on the first night and a four-hand session for one partner later in the week, often as a surprise. Each is a separate booking with its own deposit. Within a single session, the two formats are different arrangements of the same pair of therapists, so pick one when you write and the confirmation will match it.
How to ask for either one
Write on WhatsApp or Telegram and use the exact phrase for what you want: four hands for one of us, or a therapist each. Add the area you are staying in, the time and the length. The reply comes within about ten minutes with two names, an arrival time and the total. Once the deposit clears, the pair reach addresses anywhere central forty to sixty minutes later. Both of you, and the therapists, must be 21 or over.
If you are still undecided, send us the occasion and a line about each of you. We will suggest the format that fits, explain why, and leave the final choice with you.
